Print Core Replacement
This guide covers replacing the Print Core on the Vision Miner 22IDEX V4. The Print Core is a replacement kit that contains the complete hotend assembly except the radiator: the printed interface plate, the heat break, and the assembled hotend - heat block with the nozzle, heater cartridge, and temperature sensor already installed. Swapping the whole core is the fastest way to get a toolhead back to work: instead of disassembling and testing individual components, you transfer the radiator with its fan to the new core and reassemble.

All procedures in this wiki are provided as recommendations only. By choosing to follow any procedure, you do so at your own risk.
Tools and Materials
- Print Core kit
- 2 mm hex key (fan shroud, grounding wire, front plate, and interface plate screws)
- Nozzle Torque Wrench 7mm
- Pliers or adjustable wrench (to hold the heat block during nozzle tightening)
- Heat-resistant gloves
Removing the Old Print Core
- Unload the filament while hot. Preheat the hotend to the filament's printing temperature and unload the filament through the Web Interface or manually. See Loading and Unloading Filament if unsure.
- Power off. Let the hotend cool to a safe temperature, then turn the printer off and unplug the power cord.
- Move the fan shroud aside. Using the 2 mm hex key, remove the two screws holding the fan shroud and carefully move it aside together with the fan. The wire guard stays in place.
- Disconnect the grounding wire. Remove the screw holding the lug-style crimp on the hotend body with the 2 mm hex key and set the grounding wire aside.
- Disconnect the heater and sensor wires. The old core's heater cartridge and temperature sensor leave with it, so their wires must be disconnected at the distribution block. Take a photo of the connections first. To release a wire, press the orange spring-loaded tab opposite the wire with the 2 mm hex key, support the distribution block from the back, and gently pull the wire straight out - do not force it.
- Remove the front plate screws. Using the 2 mm hex key, fully unscrew the two front plate screws and remove them.
- Slide out the assembly. Pull the hotend assembly toward you. If it does not slide out easily, gently shake it from side to side while pulling, and check for stray filament or debris.
Separating the Radiator
The radiator is not included in the Print Core kit - transfer it from the old core to the new one. The cooling fan stays mounted on the radiator the whole time.
- Remove the PTFE tube. Carefully pull the PTFE tube out of the interface plate with tweezers and inspect it: the ends must be clean and square-cut, with no heat damage. You will reuse it, so set it aside - or replace it if damaged.
- Unscrew the interface plate. Remove the two screws holding the printed interface plate with the 2 mm hex key and separate the plate from the radiator.
- Free the radiator from the old heat break. Loosen the set screw on the radiator and unscrew the radiator off the old heat break.
If the heat break will not come loose
The boron nitride paste that improves heat transfer can make the parts stick. Do not force them. Plug the printer back in, heat the tool to about 150-200°C to soften the residue, and work the part free wearing heat-resistant gloves. Let everything cool and power off before continuing.
Installing the New Print Core
- Attach the radiator to the new core. Slide the new core's heat break into the radiator and carefully tighten the radiator set screw.

Attach the interface plate and PTFE tube. Fasten the new printed interface plate to the radiator with its two screws, then insert the PTFE tube. Make sure the tube sits flush - a gap causes clogs.

Slide the assembly into the extruder. Guide the assembled core back into the extruder grooves and secure it with the two front plate screws.
- Reconnect the wires. Plug the new core's heater and temperature sensor wires into the distribution block using your reference photo or the Wiring Schematic. The heater cartridge and temperature sensor are not polarity-sensitive, so their orientation does not matter.
- Reconnect the grounding wire. Fasten the lug to the hotend body with its screw.
Grounding wire must only touch hotend metal
This wire must not touch any other metal components except the hotend itself. If it does, Z-Probe (ground detection) may fail, and you risk damaging your printer.
- Reinstall the fan shroud. Fasten the fan shroud back with its two screws, making sure all wires, including the grounding wire, are tucked properly under the wire guard without sharp bends.
Hot-Tightening the Nozzle
The nozzle comes pre-installed in the Print Core, but it still must be tightened hot after installation - thermal expansion seats the components, and a nozzle that is only cold-tight will leak around the threads.
- Heat soak. Plug the printer in, power it on, and heat the hotend to your normal printing temperature. Let it sit for a few minutes so all components expand and seat properly.
- Tighten the nozzle. Wearing heat-resistant gloves, hold the heat block with pliers or an adjustable wrench and slightly tighten the nozzle with the 7 mm torque wrench to about 1-1.5 Nm. Do not overtighten.
Verification
- Test extrusion. Load filament and extrude to confirm a clear path with no jams and no leaks around the nozzle threads.
- Run Auto Calibration. In the Web Interface, open the
Macrostab and runAuto Calibration. The new core changes the nozzle position, so the full calibration, including Tool Height and Z-Offset, is required. See the Auto Calibration guide.
